We began our day, excited about the experiences which lay ahead. After a 3 hour journey, we finally arrived at Caythorpe Court in Lincolnshire and were greeted by our group leader, Charlotte. After eating our packed lunches we were given a tour of the Caythorpe site and had a glimpse of the activities which awaited us.
During the afternoon, we split into our four groups and undertook activities such as the Giant Swing, abseiling, the high ropes course, orienteering and the infamous Jacob ’s Ladder. The children showed fantastic teamwork when completing their activities, encouraging each other to go just that little bit higher, learning to be-lay each other or helping to hoist each other up to the top of the giant swing.
We finally learned which rooms we would be in at 5.30. Once settled, we sang a loud (and not entirely tuneful) happy birthday to Ronnie E whose family had kindly sent a fantastic birthday cake for everyone to share. At 6.30 we then went for our well earned evening meal.
Finally at 7.30 the children ventured out for their evening entertainment. We are now looking forward to a peaceful night’s sleep after a fun-filled first day at Caythorpe.
Here are just a few of the photos from Day 1 – many more to follow when we return to sunny Clacton (and have a more effective wifi connection!)
