This week at Holland park we have spent some time thinking, and learning, about WW1 and about the sacrifices the soldiers made. All the children in the school made a poppy of remembrance, which were then made into beautiful class wreaths. Some classes also wrote poems based on their learning.
This morning we spent some time listening to some of the poems in a special assembly where we were joined by Rev Lower. We also used this time to think about the lost and injured service men and women during past and current conflicts around the world. The whole school then took part in a remembrance parade around the school which culminated in each class laying their wreaths around our new remembrance bench. At 11am our music teacher, Hannah, played the Last Post and the whole school took part in a 2 minute silence.
It was a very moving morning and all the children showed great respect to the memories of the people who have given the ultimate sacrifice.
