Huge congratulation to Miss Sarah Hughes for winning the Essex Activity Hero Award for 2020. She was nominated by Nigel Walker, the School Games Organiser for Tendering School Sports Partnership, who said of Sarah “Without fail, whenever I’m in Sarah’s company attending a school sports festival or competition, I’m genuinely in awe to witness the respect, high regard and fondness all the children and parents have for her”.
He went on to say “Sarah is an altruist and over decades, has selflessly devoted her time, professionally and personally, to helping improve children’s lives through the participation in physical activities and sports. An Active Essex Hero Award would be a great way to recognise the work of Sarah Hughes”.
In previous years those nominated are invited to a nice celebration in Chelmsford to celebrate and recognise everyone’s contribution to sport. Unfortunately, due to Covid-19 the celebrations this year are observed remotely.
Sarah was completely surprised to receive her certificate in school this morning. In her usual unassuming way, she wanted to thank the children at Holland Park for doing so well in the sports and teams she has worked with. She said the award was as much for them as it was for her.
Holland Park Head teacher, Mr Matt Moseley, said: “Sarah does an amazing job at our school and for primary school sports across the area. Her passion and enthusiasm for sport is so inspiring to all and we are extremely lucky to have had Sarah drive PE and sport at Holland Park. She is thoroughly deserving of this award – well done Miss Hughes!”
Congratulations Sarah from all the staff and children at Holland Park.
