PE

Our PE Vision: Health, Confidence, and Teamwork

At Holland Park, our goal is to help every pupil become physically confident in a way that supports their long-term health and well-being. We aim for children to become physically active citizens who embrace values like fairness and respect.

How Your Child Learns PE

PE is taught over two sessions per week— usually one indoor session and one outdoor session—to ensure children are physically active for sustained periods.

Key Areas of Skill Progression

The curriculum systematically covers and builds upon the core skills each year:

  • Fundamental Movement Skills: Developing agility, balance, and coordination (individually and with others).

  • Games: Learning the basic rules and tactics of a range of games.

  • Dance and Gymnastics.

  • Athletics and Outdoor and Adventurous Activity (from Key Stage 2).

Competition and Character

  • Competitive & Cooperative: Children engage in both competitive sports (against themselves and others) and cooperative physical activities, learning how to co-operate and work as a team.

  • Skillful Performers: Pupils learn how to apply and link a broad range of skills to make sequences of movement, becoming increasingly competent and confident.

  • Evaluation: Children are taught how to understand and improve their performance, set targets, and evaluate their own success.

  • Values: They develop good sporting attitudes and embed values like fairness and respect.

Leading Active Lives

  • Positive Attitudes: We encourage all children to enjoy physical activity and aim to instill a foundation for lifelong physical activity.

  • Extra-Curricular: We offer a growing extra-curricular provision to provide further challenge and access to a wider range of sports and activities.

In short, your child will leave Holland Park as a skilled, intelligent performer who understands the importance of leading a healthy, active life and competing with perseverance, fairness, and respect.
